Present Perfect

The present perfect connects the past and the future.

Example:

past (1962)---------------------------------------------------------present (today)

They influenced              The Beatles have influenced people.                 They influenced

people in 1962.                                                                                                               people today.

past (in the past) --------------------------------------------------------present (now)

 I was a fan               I have always been a Beatles fan.                          I am a fan now.

             in the past.

Present Perfect = auxiliary verb (to have in the present)+main verb (in the past participle)

Short forms:

I have = I’ve (You’ve, We’ve, They’ve)

He has = he’s (she’s, it’s)

Have+not = Haven’t

Has+not = Hasn’t
